50 years of British poetry schools and their influence on Arab poetry
An Iraqi poet born in Babil (Babylon) in 1948, Fadel Al- Sultani holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Baghdad’s Faculty of Arts. He worked in the 1970s in the main paper of the Iraqi Communist Party, The Path of the People. In 1977, he left Iraq for Morocco where he studied for two years in the cities of Taroudant and Beni Mellal, then moved to Algeria in 1979 where he for some time. In 1985, he moved yet again, this time to Syria and finally settled in London in 1994. Al-Sultani worked in several cultural magazines outside Iraq and currently serves as President of the Union of Iraqi Writers and Journalists in the United Kingdom alongside his regular job as editor of the cultural page in the London-based Al-Sharaq Al-Awsat newspaper.
